The Feedback Was About the Font

Graduation photos can make a phone feel like a progress report you did not agree to receive.

Max sees people from her former university reaching a milestone she once expected to reach alongside them. That stings. She can be happy for them and still miss the version of her life she thought would be happening now.

But comparison starts doing sloppy accounting. Three semesters, paid work, a current class, skills she is developing—all of it gets rounded down to nothing because it does not look like a cap and gown.

Her next useful move is small enough to be almost annoying: finish the design and submit it.

Then the feedback arrives. Strong layout. The small text needs more size and contrast. Max hears “not good enough” before she notices that the instructor has given her two things she can actually change.

The feedback was about the font. Her entire future had joined the conversation uninvited.

Finishing gives her something that another evening of comparison cannot: a piece of work to examine. She can see what works, improve what does not, and learn whether she wants to keep doing this.

One revised assignment will not settle her education or career. It gives her a more useful starting point for the next decision than a verdict assembled from everybody else’s photographs.

What could you finish and get useful feedback on while your larger direction is still uncertain?
