After the Strip · MAVEN

I Liked the Home I Was Imagining

Maven can picture living with Tasha before they have found a place. Shared dinners. Familiar company. Someone at home who already understands the story about work.

Then they start describing an ordinary evening. Tasha likes friends dropping by several nights a week. Maven wants most evenings quiet, with visits arranged ahead. The same imaginary apartment has been hosting two different Tuesdays.

They can agree on some things. Other details need checking against money and income that are still uncertain. But the guest arrangement that would help Maven feel at home would leave Tasha feeling restricted in hers. Neither wants to promise a version of daily life she would resent.

They decide to keep looking separately. It is a useful decision, and Maven still loses something: the home she had already begun to imagine. Tasha can remain a good friend without becoming the right roommate.

Their next lunch is an ordinary plan worth keeping. They can want each other’s company while continuing separate housing searches. The friendship has a place to go on Thursday. Where Maven will live remains open.

What ordinary habit would you need to discuss before turning a friendship into a shared home?
