MEET MAVEN

Maven.

A good plan.
Room for a surprise.

Maven likes a clear next step. She also likes a funny date, a theater outing, and having something new to tell Max over breakfast.

HER BACKGROUND

How she got here.

Campus life gives Maven a world beyond home: classes, RA responsibilities, and eventually a paid student-support role. Her summer work at Riverside Community Center helps her discover that she enjoys helping people find their next step. As graduation approaches, she is exploring where—and how—she wants to live.

FAMILY & HOME

The people who knew her first.

Full-body portrait of Maven’s father

Dad

Helps with school and living expenses. When Maven lends out money he sent for her own needs, their conversation gets uncomfortable. His help has limits and a budget; being honest with him means explaining the whole situation.

Full-body portrait of Maven’s mother

Mom

Home visits and summers involve a shared car, meals, and household responsibilities. Mom wants to know about Maven’s plans. Maven wants privacy and independence while keeping practical agreements about rides, return times, and the dishes.

More from her family story · contains spoilers

Maven lends Eli money intended for school, then has to tell Dad why she is short. Later, she discovers that liking Tasha as a friend doesn’t mean they want the same home life. Neither experience stops her from wanting connection; both give her more specific questions to ask.

HER CIRCLE

Her world is getting bigger.

Max

Max

The friend who can ask what needs handling tonight, then make her laugh about a terrible hat. Their closeness has to fit around different schedules and new friendships.

Full-body portrait of Tasha

Tasha

Her campus coworker and friend: dry humor, fiercely defended snacks, and very strong theater opinions. They like spending time together even when their ideas of a quiet evening at home don’t match.

Full-body portrait of Eli

Eli

Someone she enjoys enough to ask for more. Dates become a relationship through an actual conversation about exclusivity, plans, and what each of them wants.

MORE OF THIS, PLEASE

What makes a good afternoon?

Helping a student make sense of campus instructions. A show with Tasha. Eli remembering something she wanted to try. Breakfast with Max—and a completely unnecessary argument over toast.
