Panel 2: On campus, Eli says: “I’m $180 short on the car repair.”

Panel 3: Maven: “I can lend it until Friday.” Eli: “Thank you. I’ll pay you back.”

Panel 4: At home, Maven sends $180. She thinks: “Dad wouldn’t approve. But it’ll be back.”

Panel 5: Friday. His message: “I sent $40. Can the rest wait?”

Panel 6: Course access: $175. Available: $160. Maven thinks: “I counted his promise as money I had.”
